Delirium is the most common neuropsychiatric disorder in those with advanced illness. It is associated with significant morbidity, prolonged hospitalisation and high levels of carer distress. Despite this it is often under-recognised and poorly managed.
This session will discuss the pathophysiology and management of delirium. There is a strong emphasis on assessment, including screening tools. The risks and benefits of both pharmacological and non-pharmacological management strategies will be fully explored.
